About Lloyd Cheney...

Since a school shop class in 1959, Lloyd has developed a healthy addiction to hardwoods and great satisfaction in creating beauty from them.

Having a degree in math and physical sciences, he was most affected by several electives he took in the fine arts. Fascination centered on Roman, Grecian, Egyptian and ancient Far East art forms. Although he enjoys creating his own unique styles, you may notice how these cultures have influenced his work.

Highly skilled in three woodturning techniques, Lloyd uses a combination of each in his work. Furthermore, believing the art of sanding is all but lost, he spends up to 11-2 hours of sanding on each piece while progressing through eight grades of coarseness. This ensures all tool marks and grain tear is eliminated and the optimum beauty of each wood's grain comes through. Then the finish is applied - one that he developed himself - and has won considerable praise for from other woodworkers. Finally he signs each piece and permanently embeds a penny under the base to indicate the year of creation.
